When introducing the IQ Treat Ball™ to your pup, we recommend to fill it with food and leave the inserts(difficulty level setting) out. Put it down on the floor *balanced on the exit hole,* jiggle it until there is a treat sitting right in the exit hole, then back off so your dog can check it out. Let your dog nudge the ball so it rolls away revealing the treat. Repeat this until your pup has the idea that nudging the ball = treat every single time.
Next, move on to jiggling a treat near but not in the exit hole, so your dog gets a treat most of the time with just a nudge. At that point, your pup usually has the hang of it and you can give it to him with food but no inserts, then work up on difficulty from there.
